Curtis Reed Smith was born and raised in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1985. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Baton Rouge Louisiana Mission. He spent a semester in Washington DC working for Idaho Congressman Richard Stallings. He completed his undergraduate work in Political Science at Idaho State University. While he was there he was active in student government and was elected to be a student Senator and later Student Body Vice President. He attended University of Idaho College of Law and was active in Moot Court Competitions. Upon graduation, he worked as Public Defender in Bannock County and then with private firms in Idaho Falls. He has served on the Seventh Judicial Magistrate Commission, Board of Directors for Idaho Trial Lawyers and is currently the Bar President for the Seventh Judicial District Bar Association.
Curtis is married to Kristine and they have four children, Chandler, Payton, Alex and Addison. His hobbies include coaching and spectating his children's sporting events, fly fishing, collecting and listening music.
